"The House in the Middle of Nowhere" (ABC TV/TV Asahi, Sunday 7:58pm) is a variety show that uses satellite photos to find a secluded house. In the November 10th broadcast, the search team visits a couple in their 70s who live in the mountains of Wakayama Prefecture.
The house found in the satellite photos is in a place where there are only mountains around. When we talked to a woman (77) who was working in the fields in a small village, she told us, "There is only one house living on the mountain," and even volunteered to guide us to the house. After passing a steep slope that makes the car roar, we went up a "very narrow" road that is just wide enough for one car to pass. It felt like we were driving through a jungle.
Near the ridge of the mountain, surrounded by jungle, stood a stately building with a new eagle roof. They were greeted by a 77-year-old man and his 74-year-old wife. There used to be a settlement of five houses, but about 30 years ago, it became just one house, standing there alone. The search team was shown around the man's childhood home, which they said was "well over 100 years old." "We hardly ever get any visitors here," the couple laughed. As they listened to the couple's story, the search team also savored the charm of having nothing there, something they could never experience in the city.
The preview video shows the search team being shown to the "water of life" in the jungle and eating fresh vegetables.
The guests are actor Endo Kenichi and model and TV personality Takada Aki.
