The second episode of the drama series "The Travel Nurse" (TV Asahi, Thursday 9:00 p.m.), starring actor Okada Masaki, will be broadcast on October 24th. The guest of the episode is Inoue Yuki, who co-starred with Okada as a father and son in the NHK morning drama "Wings on a Tiger" that aired until September. Inoue will play Ninomiya Masao, an elite trading company employee with cancer who is hospitalized, and they will co-star again as a nurse and a patient.
This work is a sequel to the drama of the same name that aired in October 2022. The script is by Nakazono Miho, known for the "Yamato Nadeshiko", "Haken no Hinkaku", and "Doctor-X: Surgeon Daimon Michiko" series, and the eccentric duo of Nasuda Ayumu (Okada), who has the nursing qualification "nurse practitioner" to perform certain medical procedures, and "super nurse" Kuki Shizuka (Nakai Kiichi), will reform the medical field with the patient first in mind.
Episode 2: Nishitokyo General Hospital receives a recommendation from the Labor Standards Inspection Office to correct overtime work. The new hospital director, Taku Yakushimaru (Ikusaburo Yamazaki), who is working hard to reform working practices, points out to the head of the surgery department, Teruyuki Jinbo (Jun Kaname), that overtime work is noticeable throughout the surgery department. At the helm of the surgery department, where Jinbo has a top-down personality, the "team attending physician system" that reduces the workload of each individual has become dysfunctional.
However, Jinbo dismisses the suggestion, saying, "Patients' lives are at stake, so where are the doctors who go home on time?" Ayumu praises Jinbo, who strives to improve himself and works himself to the bone even outside of working hours to keep the hospital running, as an excellent doctor.
Just then, Masao Ninomiya, an elite trading company employee with resectable cancer, is admitted to the hospital. Ayumi is suspicious of Ninomiya, who for some reason firmly refuses the surgery recommended by his doctor, Jinbo, and instead opts for chemotherapy, which will result in a much longer hospital stay. Meanwhile, Shizuka, who closely observes the patients, notices that Ninomiya is an "in-house NEET."
Soon after, Shizuka joins Jinbo as an operating room nurse during surgeries performed by him. Unable to bear the awkward movements of the assistant, young surgeon Koyama Mamoru (Watanabe Daichi), Jinbo completes the operation on his own with ease. However, after the operation, Shizuka notices something "unusual"... Meanwhile, Ayumi also gradually begins to feel uneasy about the behavior of the young surgeons.
