It has been revealed that Chiba Shoya will be appearing as a voice actor in the second season of "Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story," a new TV anime based on the popular manga by Watsuki Nobuhiro. Chiba will play Mishima Eiji, who appeared in the 27th episode that aired on October 17th. Eiji is a boy from Shingetsu Village whose older brother was killed by Shishio's group. Kenshin and Misao met Eiji on the way to Kyoto. Chiba commented, "I am very happy to be involved in the famous 'Rurouni Kenshin.' I have personally read the original manga. I think Eiji is the trigger for the brutality of Shingetsu Village and a symbol of one of the episodes that represents Shishio, so I did my best to play him. Although he is a young boy, his feelings are genuine, so I tried to convey his desperation without making him shallow. There were some impressive expressions that made me go 'wow,' so please look forward to it!" "Rurouni Kenshin" is a popular manga that was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 1994 to 1999. It depicts Himura Kenshin, who was feared as the Battousai assassin during the late Edo period, as a wanderer who has sworn not to kill after the Meiji Restoration, searching for a way to live in a new era. A new chapter, "Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story Hokkaido Arc", has been serialized in the monthly manga magazine "Jump SQ." (Shueisha) since 2017.
The new anime will be fully supervised by the original author Watsuki, from character design to scenario, and will reconstruct the original work from the first episode onwards. The first season aired from July to December 2023. The second season is currently airing on Fuji TV's late-night anime slot "Noitamina" and elsewhere.
