It was announced on June 4th that the title of NHK's Asadora drama series for the first half of 2028 will be "Hon no Mokichi," and that actress Yuumi Kawai will play the lead role. The script will be written by Kankuro Kudo. This was revealed at a press conference held on the same day at the NHK Broadcasting Center in Shibuya, Tokyo, to announce the production and the lead role.
"Hon no Mokichi" is the 118th installment of the NHK morning drama series. It tells the story of the "most estranged couple" in the history of Asadora, modeled after the poet Saito Mokichi and his wife, Teruko. This marks Kudo's return to writing the script for a Asadora after 15 years, since "Amachan" in the first half of 2013.
Miyato greeted the press with a shy "It's been a while. I'm Miyato." Kawai then took the stage and said, "I'm so grateful to be standing here today. I believe it's all thanks to everyone involved, my family and friends who always support me, and the viewers who have watched my previous works. I will do my best."
The current Asadora is " Kaze,Kaoru, " starring Ai Mikami and Juri Kosaka . In the second half of 2026, " Blossom " will be broadcast, starring Shizuka Ishibashi , and in the first half of 2027, "Mawaru Swan" will be broadcast, starring Misato Morita. The drama for the second half of 2027 has not yet been announced.
