The appearance of a new mobile suit, the Gundam Barbatos Adapt, in the new short film "Intermission Wedge" of the anime Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans has been creating a buzz. The Gundam Barbatos is a Gundam frame used in the Calamity War 300 years ago. It was used as the power reactor for Chryse Guard Security (CGS), the private security company to which Mikazuki belongs, but when the young boys from CGS were attacked by the armed organization Gjallarhorn, they quickly activated it, and Mikazuki ended up piloting it.
Tekkadan was formed primarily by former CGS child soldiers. They began using the Barbatos as they strengthened and customized it. Its second form uses the armor of a captured Graze to reinforce its shoulders, its third form repairs the armor on its left arm with a wire claw unit obtained during a battle with the Schwalbe Graze, and its fourth form restores its appearance from the Calamity War.
The Gundam Barbatos Adapt that appears in "Intermission" is a form in which Tekkadan mechanics repaired as much as possible the Barbatos 6th form that was damaged in the battle at Edmonton. It is notable for being equipped with a large and small sword as a weapon, which were procured by Teiwaz. The purpose is said to be for Barbatos to gather data. The Barbatos is then overhauled into the Gundam Barbatos Lupus. The Barbatos Adapt is the machine that leads to Barbatos Lupus.
◇Barbatos Lupus Rex, given the name "King"
The Barbatos fell into a state that even Tekkadan's mechanics could not repair. It was temporarily entrusted to the MS workshop on Saisei, Teiwaz's base, where it was overhauled as Barbatos Lupus. Based on Mikazuki's combat data, its reaction speed and maneuverability were improved, and its armament was rebuilt to suit Mikazuki's combat style. The release of the Gunpla "MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos Lupus" (Bandai Spirits) on November 22nd is also generating a lot of buzz.
Barbatos Lupus won a fierce battle against the Mobile Armor, but the damage sustained during the battle accumulated, and Teiwaz undertook further extensive modifications, resulting in the creation of the Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex. It was given the name "Rex," which means "king" in Latin. The reaction speed of the unit was successfully increased to its theoretical limit, and the exterior also utilized the equipment of the Mobile Armor. Its unique shape, including its large arms, gives it the appearance of a demon or beast.
