The show "Junin Jyuuni-iro ~As Many Family Forms as There Are Houses~" (MBS, Saturday 5pm, Kansai local and other stations) hosted by talent Mika Mifune and actor Taro Suruga will feature a house in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, that "focuses entirely on the view" in the November 8th broadcast.
The owners are a family of three with one child. This spring, they moved into a new home in their hometown of Sasebo. The land, located at the top of a long hill from the port, has a five-meter-high retaining wall on top of which the three-story house stands. The husband, who prioritizes a view, fell in love at first sight with the slope facing the mountain. The wife, a nurse, wanted to live close to the station for easy commuting, but in reality, it was only a ten-minute walk to the station. Sasebo's topography, with mountains right up to the port, made it possible to combine a view with convenience.
The heart of the house is a 15-tatami mat living/dining room with an open ceiling. Even from the first floor, there is a spectacular view of Sasebo Port. A semicircular mortar table set up on the wooden deck connects the indoors and outdoors, and in the garden you can enjoy the evening and night views, and in the summer, fireworks. A spiral staircase was installed so as not to obstruct the view, and the bathroom and bedroom are on the second floor, the children's room on the third floor, and on the "top floor," a few steps up, is the room with the best view in the house, which is a special seat for the husband. Apparently, he would quietly watch his children's first day home from school from there.
Living in a house with a great view, the husband is happy, saying, "I'm very happy because I can see a wonderful view all the time." The wife says, "I can hear the ship's whistles often. I really feel like I live near the sea," and is once again reminded of the charm of Sasebo.
"Jyunin Jyuiro" is a program that visits homes all over Japan and introduces the residents' preferences and charms for their homes. After broadcast, it will be available on TVer for one week.
