The opening scene (4 minutes 30 seconds) of the film "Taroman: Expo 2005" (directed by Fujii Ryo), which will be released on August 22nd, was released on August 21st.
This is the theatrical version of "TAROMAN: Taro Okamoto-Style Special Effects Action Drama," a special effects film created by director Fujii based on the words and works of artist Taro Okamoto, in the style of a "special effects hero program that actually aired in the 1970s." "TAROMAN" was a five-minute mini-series broadcast late at night on NHK Educational TV, but it became a huge hit on social media, leading to events, special programs, and the sale of books and merchandise. In 2023, it won the Excellence Award in the Entertainment category at the 49th Broadcasting Culture Foundation Awards.
The released video begins with a narrator asking, "What is this?" before the three great beasts, "Dream Bird," "Non," and "Kiss of Fire," appear on Earth. The beasts attack people, but the righteous beast Baron Mizujyu Danshaku and the Earth Defense Force stand up to them, but are no match for them. Then, the absurd giant Taroman suddenly appears and begins "cooking" the beasts one by one.
The film is set in Japan in 1970. As Japan celebrates the hosting of the World Expo, a terrifying strange beast from the future of 2025 attacks, intent on destroying the Expo! To fight against the strange beast, a strange power is needed, but the future world is filled with order and common sense, and strange power is on the verge of extinction. The Earth Defense Force heads to the future with Taroman to protect the Expo.
