Former ozeki Konishiki Yasokichi and his wife Chie will appear on Kuroyanagi Tetsuko's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will be broadcast at 1:00 p.m. on May 28th.
Last year, while working in the US, Konishiki was suddenly hospitalized due to kidney failure. Several members of Konishiki's family in Hawaii have died from kidney disease. In Japan, he was forced to choose between dialysis and a kidney transplant, and decided to accept a kidney from Chie. He had heard about the experience of his junior sumo wrestler, Musashigawa Oyakata, who had previously successfully received a kidney transplant from his wife.
The surgery was a success, and he expressed his joy, saying, "My wife is now inside my body." He said that in March of this year, he held a song commemoration event to express his gratitude to his wife, who is also a singer.
