The layout of the heavy cruiser Maya, drawn by Hideaki Anno when he participated as an animator in the theatrical animation "Grave of the Fireflies," has been discovered and will be on display for the first time at the exhibition "Takahata Isao Exhibition - The Man Who Created Japanese Animation" by the late director Isao Takahata. A harmony cel (a cel drawn with a painting-like touch) based on the layout will also be on display. The harmony cel was created by Noriko Higuchi.
Cel drawings and background art from "Grave of the Fireflies," "Pom Poko," and "Heidi, Girl of the Alps" will also be on display. It was also announced that Ijuin Hikaru and Tamagawa Sakiko will be in charge of audio guides. Shunji Iwai will select official playlists to match the exhibits, which can be enjoyed along with the audio guide.
The exhibition will be held in 2025, the 90th anniversary of Takahata's birth and 80 years since the end of the Pacific War, which had a major impact on Takahata's life, at the Azabudai Hills Gallery (Minato-ku, Tokyo) from June 27 to September 15.
