It has been announced that the total number of copies of the comics "Kagurabachi," a manga currently being serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), including the digital version, will exceed 2.2 million. The latest volume 7 of the comics was released on May 2nd, and the total number of copies sold will exceed 2.2 million. The work is Takeru Hokazono's first serialized work, and began serialization in September 2023. As of May 2nd, 2024, when the second volume was released, the total number of copies published was approximately 200,000, and as of July 4th of the same year, when the third volume was released, the total number of copies published had increased to 350,000, and as of December 4th of the same year, when the fifth volume was released, the total number of copies published had exceeded 1.3 million.
Special posters (56 types in total), each featuring a visual design for the 56 stories included in volumes 1 to 6 of the comics, will be displayed in Shibuya, Tokyo from 1pm on April 28th. Pop-up shops will open in Shibuya Modi (Shibuya Ward, Tokyo), Kobe Marui (Chuo Ward, Kobe City), and Hakata Marui (Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City) from June 20th. Goods featuring original illustrations by Tonozono will be on sale.
"Kagurabachi" is a sword-fighting action story by Tonozono. The story is about a boy named Chihiro who aspires to be a swordsmith and trains under his father, who is also a swordsmith, until one day tragedy strikes. The first episode of the story was the most viewed in the world within a week of its serialization on Shueisha's multilingual web service "MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA," and it is gaining popularity not only in Japan but also overseas. In August 2024, it was selected as the No. 1 manga in the "Next Manga Awards 2024."
