Reiyo Matsumoto (17) attracted attention for playing the heroine Kamen Rider Majade/ Rinne Kudo in the special effects drama " Kamen Rider Gotchard " (2023-2024). While working as an exclusive model for the teen media "Seventeen" (Shueisha), this 17-year-old is also expanding her horizons as an actor. We spoke to this notable 17-year-old about what she pays attention to as a model and about " Gotchard."
On March 1, she walked the runway at the 40th Mynavi Tokyo Girls Collection 2025 SPRING/SUMMER, held at the National Yoyogi Stadium No. 1 Gymnasium (Shibuya Ward, Tokyo). Although she has not yet had much experience walking the runway, she said with a cheerful voice, "It's more fun than nervous! I've always wanted to stand in front of people, so right now I'm really excited and having a lot of fun!"
It has been about a year and a half since she became an exclusive model for Seventeen in August 2023. Although she is at an age where she needs to eat a lot, as a model she is careful about her daily diet.
"I calculate my daily calorie intake so that it's between 1,400 and 1,600 kcal. Of course, there are times when I have to hold back, but I think about how to do so without stress. I choose one reward food each day and plan my meals so that I can eat it. My reward is sweets, because I love sweets (laughs)!"
At the age of 15, she was chosen as the heroine of "Kamen Rider Gotchard," and led a busy schedule of filming for Kamen Rider in addition to her studies and modeling work.
"I think that by working hard to balance my studies and work, I've become better at self-management. I think I've become better at managing my schedule, concentrating on my studies on days I need to study and leaving myself some free time on other days. I've grown as a person!"
He smiles and says he was "very happy" to have had the opportunity to play Kamen Rider Majade/ Rinne Kudo.
"Rinne-chan's way of thinking and her actions gave me a lot of courage. There was a line in the film that said, 'No matter how hard it is, you have to decide how you want to live your life,' and I love these words and want to continue to treasure them."
The V-Cinema Next sequel to "Kamen Rider Gotchard," "Kamen Rider Gotchard GRADUATIONS" (directed by Yamaguchi Kyohei), was screened in February. At the end, Rinne chooses to study abroad, and his conversation with the main character, Kamen Rider Gotchard/Ichinose Houtaro(played by Junsei Motojima), became a hot topic.
"Rinne-chan made the choice to go overseas to grow as an individual, which I thought was impressive! Her relationship with Houtaro was portrayed in a way that fans will be pleased with, and it ended beautifully. I'm glad it ended in a way that leaves the story continuing in the future!"
The Kamen Rider series has produced many popular actors. Matsumoto says that she will be focusing on acting as well as modeling in the future. She most recently appeared in the TV Asahi special drama "Spring!" which aired on March 21st, and is also appearing in the Nippon Television drama series "The Reluctant Preacher" (Saturdays at 9pm) which will begin airing in April.
"I had the opportunity to experience a lot of valuable experiences in Kamen Rider Gotchard, including action scenes and explosions, so I would like to use those experiences to work hard on each and every job," he said enthusiastically, and added with a smile, "I hope that I can grow and play Rinne again someday."
Finally, she sent a message to her fans with a smile, saying, "I will do my best to be a sunshine for you all, so I hope you will continue to support me."
