It has been announced that Yu Miyazaki and Ryota Suzuki will be appearing as voice actors in the TV anime "CITY THE ANIMATION," based on the manga "CITY" by Arawi Keiichi, who is also known for "Nichijou" and other works. Miyazaki will play the manga artist Oni Kamaboko, and Suzuki will play Todoroki, an editor at "Weekly CITY Magazine." The series will be produced by Kyoto Animation, the same company that produced "Nichijou," and this will be the first time the company has worked on a new anime series, excluding sequels, in about six years.
Miyazaki commented, "Every week's recording was a mix of excitement and fear. I couldn't help but have fun listening to other people's acting from my seat. I was desperate not to laugh during the show. And then it was my turn. I felt a unique kind of pressure I've never felt anywhere else. Whoa... I'm slipping... I can't afford to slip...! An indescribable heat and energy was constantly swirling around in the booth. I think almost all of the cast members felt the same...A terrifying work is about to be released into the world. Enjoy!!!"
Ryota Suzuki said, "Seeing Kyoto Animation's sophisticated visuals and the actors' challenging, aggressive attitude in front of the microphone made me tremble every week as I participated in the dubbing (trying to hold back my laughter). I'm sure we have created something amazing. On this set, I am keenly aware of how difficult it is to express something with just breathing. If you're not sure what they're saying, I recommend you tune in to the TV and check it out."
The second set of concept visuals was also released. It is a visual series in which the creative team ".MP" expresses the worldview of "CITY" using various design techniques, and the subtitle of the second set is "GOD SOCCER + special others." Using "soccer" as a keyword that appears in the work, the worldview of "CITY" is expressed with God + Mimineko, Tsuchinoko, Fighting Monkey, and Mole.
"CITY" is a manga that was serialized in "Morning" (Kodansha) from 2016 to 2021. It depicts the lives of some slightly unusual people living in an ordinary "CITY", including penniless college student Nagumo Mitori, Nikura, and Izumi Wako.
The anime will be directed by Ishidate Taichi, known for "Beyond the Boundary" and "Violet Evergarden," and produced by Kyoto Animation, the company behind the "Nichijou" TV anime. Mikako Komatsu will play the protagonist Nagumo Mitori, Aki Toyosaki play the protagonist's friend Nikura, and Ishikawa Yui will play Izumi Wako, the most mysterious character in the series. It will be broadcast on ABC TV, TOKYO MX, and other channels from July 6th.
