An event for the anime " Kaiju No. 8, " based on the popular manga by Naoya Matsumoto currently being serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+," was held at the world's largest anime event, "AnimeJapan 2025," held at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo) on March 22nd. Gen Narumi, the captain of the first unit, who appeared in the final episode of the first season and will be making a full appearance in the second Koki Uchiyama, said about the recording, "The enthusiasm of the cast and staff was amazing, and I could feel everyone's energy."
Uchiyama commented about Gen Narumi , "There's a gap between his personality. His private life is lazy. He's someone who can't be independent. But he's very strong. I was thinking about how to create that difference in atmosphere."
When asked to introduce similarities between himself and the character on a flip chart, he wrote, "We're both messy," and revealed, "That's what my room is like. I'm messy."
Also appearing at the event were Masaya Fukunishi , who plays the main character Kafka Hibino/ Kaiju No. 8 , Wataru Kato , who plays Reno Ichikawa , and Kengo Kawanishi , who plays Soshiro Hoshina .
" Kaiju No. 8" has been serialized in "Shonen Jump+" since July 2020. Set in Japan, a monster superpower where monsters mercilessly invade everyday life, the story follows the adventures of the protagonist, Kafka Hibino, whose body has been transformed into a monster by a mysterious creature. It also attracted attention in 2021 when it was selected as the grand prize winner in the web manga category of the "Next Manga Awards 2021." The comic has sold over 18 million copies in Japan.
The anime is produced by Production IG, which has worked on the Ghost in the Shell series, while Studio Khara, which worked on the Rebuild of Evangelion series, is in charge of monster design and works. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2024, and was also streamed in real time worldwide on Twitter (X) to coincide with the TV broadcast, which became a hot topic. A compilation of the first season and Hoshina's Holiday will be screened in theaters for three weeks only from March 28th. The second season will air on TV Tokyo and other channels from July.
