In episode 9, Saejima meets with Yumizuru in the visiting room with Kanzaki (Daiken Okudaira) also present.
Yuzuru began, "You see, I didn't want to forget what I wanted to say, so I wrote it down," and then said, "One, I won't see my mother anymore. Two, please forget about me. Three, I am the one who killed Shibuya Yusuke. Four, it's not your fault. Five..." He then looked at the note, which had traces of words that had been written and erased, and Yuzuru said, "Five, I am truly sorry. That's all."
Kanzaki said, "Yumizuru-san, I understand, I totally understand," and continued, "You see, Yumizuru-san, everyone here is carrying sins. Sins that they cannot share with anyone. Those sins will not go away, because no matter what you do, Shibuya Yusuke will not come back to life. But I know how much Saejima-sensei must be feeling to be here."
Meanwhile, Saejima said, "I understand what you're trying to say...I think I do. You want to make amends properly on your own. Kanzaki-kun and Mikami Sensei(Matsuzaka-san) taught you that. And yet I left you all alone, thinking that I would only have to sacrifice myself. All for Yuzuru's sake. All for the sake of my students. I didn't even try to see that continuing to act like that was the worst thing I could do as a mother and as a teacher. And I drove you into a corner. I will carefully consider what Yuzuru said. But I want to talk to you at least one more time."
Regarding this scene, a flood of comments were made on social media, such as, "I cried when I saw that the last item in Yumizuru's letter had been erased and it said, 'I was actually lonely,'" "Mayu Hotta is amazing. The meeting scene gave me chills," "Mayu Hotta is great in this kind of role," and "It was like you could see the erasure of 5, 'I was lonely.'"
