It was announced on February 23rd that the latest TV anime series in the popular "Gundam" series, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (Zeke Axe)", will be broadcast on 30 Nippon Television affiliates every Tuesday at 12:29am starting April 8th. It was also announced that the theme song will be "Plazma" by Kenshi Yonezu, just like the theatrical advance version "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX -Beginning-".
"Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" is also a hot topic as it is the first collaboration between Sunrise, which is responsible for the "Gundam" series, and khara, known for the "Evangelion" series. Kazuya Tsurumaki will be the director, Yoji Enokido will be in charge of series composition, and Ikuto Yamashita will be in charge of mechanical design.
The story is about the protagonist, high school girl Amate Yuzuriha (Machu), who lives a peaceful life in a space colony floating in space, but after meeting a war refugee girl named Nyaan, she becomes embroiled in an illegal mobile suit duel competition, a clan battle...Machu participates in the clan battle in the mysterious state-of-the-art mobile suit GQuuuuuuX.
Ahead of the broadcast of the TV anime series, a preview version of some episodes was released in theaters on January 17th. The preview version was released without revealing any spoilers, but after its release, it was revealed that the work is set in the Universal Century and features the familiar "Red Comet" Char Aznable and Sharia Bull from "Mobile Suit Gundam," the first work in the "Gundam" series that aired from 1979 to 1980, and has become a hot topic.
The theatrical advance version has grossed 2.53 billion yen and attracted 1.554 million viewers in the first month since its release. This surpasses the 2.3 billion yen gross recorded by Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, released in 1982, making it the second highest grossing theatrical film in the Gundam series. The highest grossing theatrical film in the series to date is Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, which will be released in January 2024, at approximately 5 billion yen.
