Former entertainment reporter Noriko Tokairin (90) appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) broadcast on February 13th. Having celebrated her 90th birthday (90 years old) in May last year, Tokairin has become more and more active. She talked about the source of her energy.
Tokairin revealed the changes he experienced, saying, "My feelings have changed completely. It was strange, but I started to feel that I no longer had to think about a lot of things when I turned 90, and that I could live freely on my own. For example, I became open and didn't care if people told me I was doing something embarrassing. Emotionally, I felt like I wanted to do a lot more things now that I was in my 90s than I did in my 80s."
Since turning 90, she has become more active and has been attending live music shows more frequently. She says she enjoys writing down her upcoming shows in her schedule notebook, and revealed, "I think listening to and enjoying live music (at live shows) is the secret to longevity. I try to go as often as possible."
After her first love and her relationship with her late husband, Tokairin is currently in her "third love". Her partner is Hiroto, the guitarist of rock band Alice Nine. "We became LINE friends and started communicating. I thought, 'Oh, that's great.' I thought this is what I call oshikatsu," she said with a smile. "Interacting with Hiroto on LINE has become my purpose in life. I think I can survive like this for about three years," she said.
Tokairin says he is having the most fun now. "I realized that after I turned 90. In my 80s I was always nervous. Like, 'I wonder what would happen if I did this?' But after I turned 90, it's like it's OK no matter what anyone says to me."
