It has been announced that "Kimi ga Tokubetsu", which came to an end in January this year in the girls' manga magazine "Bessatsu Margaret" (Shueisha), will be made into a live-action movie starring actor Mei Hata Mei and popular group "Naniwa Danshi" leader Ohashi Kazuya, and will be released on June 20th. This will be Ohashi's first lead role in a movie, and he will play a role that is linked to his own character, the "leader of a national idol group". A teaser visual and a 30-second trailer have also been released on Gaga's official YouTube channel.
"Kimi ga Tokubetsu" is the latest work by Momoko Koda, who is known for works such as "Heroine Shikkaku", "Sensei Kunshu" and "Atashi no!", and was serialized from 2019 to January this year. It is a love story depicting the romance between Wakaume Sahoko (Hata), a dark-haired, glasses-wearing "gloomy girl" who hates handsome men due to past trauma, and Kirigaya Kouta (Ohashi), the leader of a well-known national idol group.
Hata said about the character Sahoko, whom she plays, "I thought she was a quirky, innocent and adorable girl. It was really adorable how she loses control of her feelings after meeting Kota." She added, "I would be happy if the romance between the two characters can be a way to brighten up the moments that viewers can enjoy."
Ohashi commented on reading the original manga, "Because I'm also an idol, I learned a lot from him, including how to be an idol!", and commented about Kota, "His way of life as an idol is the same as the way I aspire to be an idol." He called out, "I'd be happy if it becomes a movie that people want to watch over and over again! Please look forward to it!"
Original author Koda commented, "Meiku's Sahoko is already an explosively introverted character, which is something you would never imagine given how cute Meiku is (lol). She's so cute and lovable, I couldn't take my eyes off her, it's like Sahoko has really popped out of the manga, and I'm so thrilled! Personally, I had secretly dreamed of having Ohashi-kun play Kota if the story was made into a live-action version, so when it was decided I was in over my head. I'm so happy! It's like Kota is playing Kota, and it's likely to cause a gestalt collapse of Kota (lol). I'm sure it will be an absolutely wonderful movie, so I hope everyone will look forward to it with excitement!"
The director will be Matsuda Reito, known for the TV dramas "7 Days with Daddy" (TBS, 2022) and "Love Encouragement" (TBS, 2023). The script will be written by Okazaki Satoko, known for the films "Ellie in Love" (2024) and "My! (2024)."
