It has been announced that a new TV anime series, "Anne Shirley," based on Montgomery's masterpiece "Anne of Green Gables," will be broadcast on NHK Educational TV from April 5th at 6:25 pm. The series will cover the three volumes of the "Anne of Green Gables" series in 24 episodes. Key visuals featuring the main character Anne Shirley, her rival Gilbert, and Diana, who will become Anne's lifelong best friend, have also been released.
"Anne of Green Gables" depicts the protagonist Anne, who is highly sensitive and can turn even sad things into joy with her imagination, as she grows up despite repeated failures with her family and friends. The TV anime directed by Isao Takahata was broadcast in 1979 as the fifth installment of the "World Masterpiece Theater" series, and it has been made into an anime again.
