The Sunday Theatre drama " Mikami Sensei " (TBS, Sunday 9pm) starring actor Tori Matsuzaka will begin airing on January 19th. The drama will introduce the 29 unique students of class 2, year 3, of Rintoku Gakuen, where Mikami (Matsuzaka) is the homeroom teacher, in order of their attendance numbers. Here we will introduce Kakeru Wakui (Omi Natsuki), attendance number 29. The drama's official SNS is also releasing videos introducing the students.
Wakui is a brilliant student who has been ranked number one in the national mock exams since the school opened. He has a cool personality and doesn't hang out with others. His classmates rely on him for his studies. He doesn't belong to any clubs, and his interests include philosophy books, quizzes, and idols. He is considered too smart for his classmates. His childhood friend and girlfriend are in the class next door.
Natsuki, who plays the role, commented, "When I was chosen to appear, I was very happy, because it felt like a recognition of myself. When preparing for the role, I first thought about the words that Wakui Sho would speak and the image of the person that would come out of that. I think words like rational elegance suit him. How will Wakui, with his efficient way of thinking and his excitement for new things, affect the work? I would be happy if viewers would "think" carefully about the essential message of the work that lies beyond that. The filming set of ' Mikami Sensei' is warm and lively, full of earnest smiles and enthusiastic people. It's really fun, and I'm looking forward to it airing."
"Mikami Sensei" is about a Ministry of Education bureaucrat, Takashi Mikami (Matsuzaka), who wants to change the Japanese education system, being ordered to transfer to a private high school, Rintoku Gakuin. In reality, it was a demotion, but Mikami himself takes to the podium and leads 18-year-old high school students living in the Reiwa era while standing up to authority... This is a "great reversal education revival story."
This completely original work will be written by Shimori Roba, who will be teaming up with Matsuzaka for the first time since the film "The Journalist," and will be writing the script for a prime-time drama series for the first time. Kazutaka Iida, who has been in charge of popular Sunday Theater dramas such as "Anti-Hero" (2024) and "VIVANT" (2023), will serve as producer.
