The Sunday Theatre drama " Mikami Sensei " (TBS, Sunday 9pm) starring actor Tori Matsuzaka Tori will begin airing on January 19th. The drama will introduce the 29 unique students of class 3-2 at Rintoku Gakuen, where Mikami (Matsuzaka) is the homeroom teacher, in order of their attendance numbers. Kurayoshi is a bilingual returnee who was born and raised in the United States. She returned to Japan to start high school and is attending a Japanese school for the first time. She is cheerful and has her own opinions. She used to be a member of the tennis club and values ​​time with her family. She tends to be a bit isolated in class.

Kageyama, who plays the role, said, "I was so moved that I couldn't believe I was in a place that I had always dreamed of. I thought I might never play a student role again, so it was a strange feeling of nostalgia and newness all at once. I've been thinking about what kind of feelings and visions I want to convey through this production, and I've been working on it while being inspired by all the talented people."

Speaking about her character Kurayoshi Yume, she said, "The character is a returnee from the United States, born and raised there, so I started by imagining the character's English proficiency, how she keeps her distance from others, her personality, etc., and then I studied American English and American Japanese, body language, and how to use facial expressions." She continued, "The set was full of energy and freshness, and I am always energized by seeing everyone's smiles. In the classroom, the words of each person are like a relay as the filming progresses, and when someone is working hard, a warm atmosphere is created where everyone encourages them. Although it is a school-related story, I am sure there are moments when it resonates with everyone's way of life and their heart. Personally, I am really inspired by the acting of the emotional turmoil of each student. There is a scene where Kurayoshi faces her own background and talks about important topics, so I hope that everyone will be kind enough to watch over her."

" Mikami Sensei" is about Takashi Mikami (Matsuzaka), a bureaucrat in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology who wants to change the Japanese education system. He is ordered to transfer to a private high school called Rintoku Gakuin. In reality, he was demoted, but Mikami himself takes to the podium and leads 18-year-old high school students living in the Reiwa era, standing up to authority... This is a "great reversal education revival story."

This completely original work will be written by Shimori Roba, who will be teaming up with Matsuzaka for the first time since the film "The Journalist," and will be writing the script for a prime-time drama series for the first time. Kazutaka Iida, who has been in charge of popular Sunday Theater dramas such as "Anti-Hero" (2024) and "VIVANT" (2023), will serve as producer.
