The Sunday Theatre drama " Mikami Sensei " (TBS, Sunday 9pm) starring actor Tori Matsuzaka Tori will begin airing on January 19th. The drama will introduce the 29 unique students of class 2, year 3, of Rintoku Gakuen, where Mikami (Matsuzaka) is the homeroom teacher, in order of their attendance numbers. Here we will introduce Kanzaki Takuto (played by Daiken Okudaira), who is attendance number 12. A video introducing the students is also available on the drama's official SNS.
Kanzaki is the head of the journalism club and aspires to be a journalist. He has complicated feelings of respect and resentment towards his father, a newspaper reporter. He has a sense of justice and excellent grades, but he is not the type to show his emotions. He has a charisma that dominates the atmosphere in his class. His hobbies are reporting, cameras, and reading news magazines. He has a laid-back attitude in class, and is childhood friends with his classmate Tominaga Aoi (Aju Makita).
Okuhira, who plays the role, commented, "I felt very honored to be able to appear in Sunday Theater, a time slot that has produced many works that are now considered masterpieces. I would like to do my best as a member of the team so that we can properly convey the message that this work is trying to convey. The atmosphere on set was very bright, and the staff were all very friendly. The atmosphere with the other students gave off the feeling that we were real high school classmates, and I'm sure that comes across in the acting. I would of course like people to see Kanzaki Takuto, but I would also like people to see the whole of Class 3-2. I hope you will pay attention to how each character, who has their own way of thinking, deals with the events that occur in the story."
"Mikami Sensei" is about Takashi Mikami (Matsuzaka), a bureaucrat in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology who wants to change the Japanese education system. He is ordered to transfer to a private high school called Rintoku Gakuin. In reality, he was demoted, but Mikami himself takes to the podium and leads 18-year-old high school students living in the Reiwa era, standing up to authority... This is a "great reversal education revival story."
This completely original work will be written by Shimori Roba, who will be teaming up with Matsuzaka for the first time since the film "The Journalist," and will be in charge of the script for a prime-time drama series for the first time. Kazutaka Iida, who has been in charge of popular Sunday Theater dramas such as "Anti-Hero" (2024) and "VIVANT" (2023), will serve as producer.
