"TV Preview Room" is a site where reporters review TV programs of various genres, from dramas to documentaries, variety shows, and anime, before they are broadcast. This time, we will be introducing the omnibus drama "Non-REM no Mado 2025 New Year," which will be broadcast on the Nippon Television Network from 10:30 pm on January 5th.
Bakarhythm is not only a comedian, but also a talented screenwriter, having written numerous drama and movie scripts and received the Mukoda Kuniko Award and the Galaxy Award. This work is a "new sensation SF short short" drama that Bakarhythm wrote the original idea and script, and since the first episode was broadcast in April 2022, this is the seventh installment of the popular series.
This time, there are two films: "Please Follow the Car in Front of You" starring Arata Furuta and Tomoya Nakamura, and "Ready, Go, Fiction!" starring Taizo Harada. "Please Follow the Car in Front of You" was written by Bakarhythm, while "Ready, Go, Fiction!" was written by Takemura Takeshi, who has also written "Mitsuhide's Smartphone" and "Tsuji-san."
These two works are touted as "full throttle of Bakarhythm's slightly mysterious world, moving between 'dream and reality' and 'reality and unreality'!" As the title suggests, "Please Follow the Car in Front of Me" is a one-situation comedy about a taxi driver (Furuta) who is told to "follow the car in front of me," and a passenger (Nakamura) who ends up saying the same thing. At first glance it may seem casual, but the phrase "please follow the car in front of me" is something you'd only hear in a detective drama. It's impressive how easily (and I mean that as a compliment) they can create a situation where unreality jumps into reality.
"Ready, Go, Fiction!" tells the story of a TV director (Harada) who is ordered by the government and sponsors to create fake news. This is a situation that seems impossible in real life, but which makes you think it could possibly happen. It is a unique work that has satirical elements but does not lose the comical quality that is unique to "non-REM."
Now in its seventh installment, both works have experimental elements that were not present when the series first began, and overall "Non-REM no Mado" has become more mature. Starting on January 12th, the serial drama "The Hot Spot" (Sundays at 10:30 pm), written by Bakarhythm and depicting an "encounter with the unknown" in a small rural town at the foot of Mount Fuji, will be broadcast. We look forward to seeing more of the "Bakarhythm World."
