Comic Market (Comiket) 105, Japan's largest doujinshi convention, opened on December 29th at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo), attracting approximately 150,000 visitors on the first day. Comiket 105 will run for two days until the 30th. This will be the first time in 10 years since Comiket 87 in 2014 that Comiket will not be held on New Year's Eve.
General attendees will need a ticket or a wristband-type participation certificate to enter. In addition to morning and afternoon admission, early admission tickets were also sold to accommodate late-night visitors. There were approximately 29,000 exhibition spaces over the two days, an increase of approximately 5,000 spaces from the previous event. This was the largest number of spaces in one day to date.
Comiket was first held in December 1975, with 32 circles and an estimated 700 people attending. It has been held in Harumi, Tokyo, Makuhari, Chiba, and elsewhere, and since Comiket 50 in 1996, it has been held at Tokyo Big Sight. Comiket 97, held in December 2019, attracted a record high of approximately 750,000 visitors over four days. Comiket 104, held on August 11th and 12th, attracted approximately 260,000 visitors over two days.
