It has been announced that a screening event for Anne of Green Gables, the 1979 animated masterpiece directed by Isao Takahata, entitled "Anne of Green Gables Christmas Selection Screening & Talk Show with Eiko Yamada" will be held on December 21st at the UDX Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo. Chapter 27, "Matthew and the Puffy Sleeves," and Chapter 28, "The Christmas Concert," will be screened. After the screening, there will be a talk show with Eiko Yamada, who played the main character Anne, and film researcher Seiji Kanae.
Chapters 27 and 28 were written by Director Takahata and Takekuni Takano. As the Christmas concert approaches and Anne and the others get more and more enthusiastic about practicing, Matthew notices that there is something different about Anne compared to the others. Anne does not have any nice clothes, so Matthew gives her some clothes as a gift. Anne is delighted. On the day of the concert, Anne notices that Matthew has come to watch and is inspired... This is the story.
"Anne of Green Gables" is based on Montgomery's timeless masterpiece, which has been translated into 36 languages and has sold a total of approximately 50 million copies worldwide. The story follows Anne, a sensitive girl who is able to turn even sadness into joy with her brilliant imagination, as she makes repeated mistakes and grows together with her family and friends. An anime TV series directed by Takahata was broadcast in 1979 as the fifth installment of the "World Masterpiece Theater" series.
