It has been revealed that the new TV anime "Shin Samurai Den YAIBA", based on the manga "YAIBA" by Gosho Aoyama, who is known for "Detective Conan" and other works, will be broadcast every Saturday at 5:30 pm on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV from April 2025. The same network broadcasts the TV anime "Detective Conan" every Saturday at 6 pm. From April 2025, two anime works based on Aoyama's original work will be broadcast consecutively on Saturday evenings, creating an hour of "Gosho Aoyama World". The main character of "Shin Samurai Den YAIBA", Kurogane Yaiba, and the main character of "Detective Conan", Edogawa Conan, will both be played by voice actor Minami Takayama.
The second teaser PV for "Shin Samurai Den YAIBA" has been released, revealing that Katsuyuki Konishi will play Yaiba's father, Tetsuken Juro, and Junichi Suwabe will play the swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. The PV also features the Raijinken held by Yaiba and the Fuujinken held by Onimaru, depicting the two engaged in a sword duel.
Konishi commented, "Hello everyone. I'm Konishi, and I'll be playing Tetsuken Juro this time. The series YAIBA is making a comeback in this Reiwa era! It's so nostalgic! Whether you know YAIBA or not, please look forward to it! Thank you!"
Suwabe said, "He has the eyes and mind of an old man. He's a real grandfather! But he's also a legendary swordsman. There's a lot of comicality in the character, so I'm having fun playing him. I auditioned properly (laughs). Please look forward to it!"
"YAIBA" is a swordplay action manga that Aoyama serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) from 1988 to 1993, before "Detective Conan" began serialization. It depicts the exploits of Tetsujin, an unconventional young swordsman who trains in the jungle with his father. Yaiba returns to Japan by chance and makes great strides in his new training ground, seeking even greater strength... This is the story. A total of 24 volumes of the manga have been released, with a total circulation of approximately 17 million copies.
The new anime will be fully supervised by the original author Aoyama, and will be fully animated about 30 years after the series' completion. Following on from the TV anime "Yaiba: The Legend of the Hero" that aired from 1993 to 1994, Takayama will play the main character Tetsujin. Iwami Manaka will play the heroine Mine Sayaka, and Hosoya Yoshimasa will play Yaiba's rival Onimaru Takeshi. It will be produced by WIT STUDIO, known for "Attack on Titan" and "SPY×FAMILY."
