Sugisaki Hana plays Asako, the poster girl of Ginza Shokudo in Hashima, Nagasaki, in the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Diamond Sleeping in the Sea" (Sundays at 9pm), starring actor Kamiki Ryunosuke. Asako is a character who has liked Teppei (Kamiki) since she was a child, but is unable to express her feelings. Sugisaki made the following comment ahead of the broadcast of the second episode (November 3rd).

The drama is a story of love, friendship and family spanning 70 years, set on Hashima (Gunkanjima) in Nagasaki Prefecture, which developed through coal mining from the beginning of the Meiji era to the postwar high economic growth period, and in modern-day Tokyo. It is written by Nogi Akiko, directed by Tsukahara Ayuko, and produced by the team behind the dramas "Unnatural" and "MIU404" (TBS), and the movie "The Last Mile".

◇Comment from Sugisaki Hana

An open set was built to recreate Hashima Island at the time, and while filming, it gave me the feeling that people were really living there. I was moved when I saw the first episode and saw it in the video, as it was more powerful. It also made me wonder, "What will happen in the town of Hashima in the future?" and I'm really looking forward to it.

My favorite scene in episode 1 is the "Yagurashika!" scene at Ginza Shokudo. Asako and Yuriko (Tsuchiya Tao) have a slightly rift in their relationship, but when they find out that Rina (Ikeda Elaiza) has been treated badly, they share their anger as women. No matter how far apart they are, they unite in these moments, and this scene, where you can feel the resonance between the two of them, was very powerful and memorable. I think it was the moment when the two of them faced the same direction.

And in episode 2, which airs this week, I want you to pay attention to the "square dance" scene.
