"Cat's Eye" official trailer released

It has been announced that a brand new anime adaptation of Hojo Tsukasa's popular manga "Cat's Eye," which gained popularity mainly in the 1980s, will be exclusively streamed on Disney+ from September 26th. Episodes 1-6 of the first part will be streamed from September 26th to October 31st, while episodes 7-12 of the second part will be streamed weekly from December 26th to January 30th, 2026. The official trailer, featuring the new opening theme "MAGIC" sung by singer Ado, has been released on YouTube. It has been announced that Ado will cover the theme song "CAT'S EYE" sung by Anri as the ending theme for the series, and Ado will also be in charge of the opening theme.

The opening theme, "MAGIC," was written, composed, and arranged by Vocaloid producer Tsumiki, who is teaming up with Ado for the first time. Ado commented, "I recently covered 'CAT'S EYE' as the ending theme for the anime 'Cat's Eye,' and now I've been given the opportunity to also write the opening theme. I'm truly honored. Tsumiki wrote 'MAGIC,' and it's a new frontier for Ado, a heart-pounding retro-pop number. The anime will be available on Disney+. Let's enjoy it together."

With the start of distribution approaching, original author Hojo commented, "We are able to bring you 'Cat's Eye' as an anime again thanks to all the fans who have supported us for so many years. I am truly grateful. This is my first serialized work, so I was feeling my way around while drawing it, so I feel a bit embarrassed (laughs)."

The new work is also attracting attention as it will feature the first appearance of freelance writer Kamiya Masato in an anime, with Hojo saying, "This new work will be closer to the original, and Kamiya, also known as 'Nezumi,' who has not appeared before, will also play an active role. He is the character who served as the basis for Saeba Ryo from ' City Hunter.' I hope that fans of City Hunter will enjoy seeing him, as he could be said to be the origin of Ryo. I hope that the new story of the three sisters will reach generations who are unfamiliar with 'Cat's Eye.' Please look forward to it."

A key visual was also released, depicting the three sisters, Hitomi Kisugi, Rui Kisugi, and Ai Kisugi, running through the city at night, and the detective Toshio Utsumi chasing them.

The series is a popular manga that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from 1981 to 1984. The story revolves around three beautiful sisters, Hitomi, Rui, and Ai, who run the Cat's Eye cafe, coolly running through the night as phantom thieves, causing a stir in society. The story is filled with brilliant action and a thrilling romance with a detective.

An anime TV series was also broadcast from 1983 to 1985, and this will be the first time in about 40 years that the series will be adapted into an anime series. In the new anime, voice actresses Mikako Komatsu will play Hitomi Kisugi, the second of the three beautiful sisters, Ami Koshimizu will play Rei Kisugi, the eldest, and Yumiri Hanamori will play Ai Kisugi, the third. Takuya Sato will play Toshio Utsumi, a detective.
