It has been revealed that the cumulative box office revenue of the sixth season of the TV anime "GeGeGe no Kitaro," a film adaptation of the manga by the late Shigeru Mizuki, and the "real version," has exceeded 3.07 billion yen. The cumulative audience has exceeded 2.12 million people. "Kitaro Birth: The Mystery of GeGeGe" will be released in November 2023, and has attracted approximately 1.95 million audience members and generated approximately 2.79 billion yen in box office revenue. The "real version," which retakes and re-dubs 327 cuts, was released on October 4th and has become a hit.

It has also been revealed that the second visual card, drawn by character designer Toru Yatabe to coincide with the release, will be distributed from October 18th as a special gift for visitors to the "real version" in the third week. The design is shrouded in mystery.

The real version is "the horror story that the production team had originally envisioned," and revives the "horror scenes" that were envisioned in the storyboards. "The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe" was rated PG12 (those under 12 years of age require parental or guardian advice and guidance), but the real version is rated R15+ (no viewing for those under 15 years of age).

"The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe" was released to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mizuki's birth. This is the first theatrical version of "GeGeGe no Kitaro" to be released in about 15 years since "GeGeGe no Kitaro: Japan Explodes!!," which was released in December 2008 as the theatrical version of the fifth series of the TV anime. Kitaro's father (formerly Medama Oyaji) and Mizuki are the main characters, and "the story of Kitaro's fathers" is being told for the first time. It was also a hot topic when it was selected for the Best Animation Award at the 47th Japan Academy Awards.
