The TV anime "Dandadan," based on the popular manga by Ryu Yukinobu, which is currently being serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump + (Plus)," will begin airing on the MBS/TBS late-night anime slot "Super Animeism TURBO" from October 3rd. The unique "occult youth story" combines many elements of the occult, youth, romantic comedy, and battle, and will be produced by Science SARU, which also produced "Inu-oh," "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!", and "The Tale of the Heike." "Dandadan" is a manga by Ryu, who served as an assistant on the popular manga "Chainsaw Man" and "Hell's Paradise," and began serialization on "Shonen Jump +" in April 2021. It depicts Momo (Ayase Momo), a high school girl from a family of spiritualists, and her classmate Okarun (Takakura Ken), an occult maniac, as they confront the mysterious events that appear one after another. The comic has sold over 3.2 million copies in total. The total number of views on "Shonen Jump+" is over 440 million.
The anime is directed by Yamashiro Fuuga, who has worked on "Inu-oh," "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!" and "The Tale of the Heike," and features a star-studded staff including Seko Koji in series composition and scriptwriting, Ushio Kensuke in music, Onda Naoyuki in character design, and Kameda Yoshitoshi in alien and monster design. Wakayama Shion plays Momo, Hanae Natsuki plays Okarun, Tanaka Mayumi plays the monster Turbo Granny, and Nakai Kazuya plays the Serpo alien.
The first episode, "That's the Beginning of Love," depicts how Momo and Okarun met. The two start talking after Momo saves Okarun from a bully in their class, but they end up arguing because Momo "believes in ghosts but doesn't believe in aliens," while Okarun "believes in aliens but doesn't believe in ghosts." In order to make them believe in the existence of aliens and ghosts, which both deny, Momo heads to an abandoned hospital that is a UFO spot, and Okarun heads to a tunnel that is a haunted spot.
