The movie version of the anime "Overlord" based on the light novel by Maruyama Kugane, "Overlord: The Holy Kingdom Arc," was released on September 20th, and it has been reported that it grossed about 318 million yen and attracted about 198,000 people in three days. Including the IMAX advance screening that started on September 13th, it got off to a good start, grossing about 457 million yen and attracting about 270,000 people.

"Overlord" depicts the story of a dull young man who is transported to a world that looks just like a popular online game, where he becomes a great wizard in the form of a skeleton and reigns over the world. The first season of the TV anime aired from July to September 2015, the second from January to April 2018, the third from July to October 2018, and the fourth from July to September 2022.

The movie will animate the "Holy Kingdom Arc," which is also popular in the original work. This is the first completely new movie in the series, and following on from the TV series, it will be directed by Ito Naoyuki and produced by Madhouse.
