"Omusubi" is the NHK morning drama series starring Kanna Hashimoto, which will begin airing in the second half of fiscal 2024 on September 30th. The heroine, born in 1989, is a powerful "Heisei youth graffiti" who pushes forward with the "gal spirit" of valuing her individuality at all times. There are 10 days left until the show starts. Here, we introduce Yoneda Kayo, played by Yoshiko Miyazaki.

◇A good advisor who is aware of the wisdom of her ancestors

Yoneda Kayo is the grandmother of the main character Yui (played by Hashimoto). She loves her hometown of Itoshima and has a very positive mindset. She is aware of the wisdom of her ancestors that has been passed down since ancient times, and is also a good advisor when Yui is in trouble.

Miyazaki, who plays Kayo, will be appearing in her third morning drama, following "Kaze no Haruka" (2005 second half) and "Gochisousan" (2013 second half).

◇The first morning drama to start in the Heisei era in four works - what will be the theme song and narration?

The drama is an original work by screenwriter Nemoto Nonji, known for NHK's "Honest Real Estate." The theme song is "Illumination" by B'z, a song that is said to powerfully liven up the world of the story, in which the protagonist encounters gal culture.

The main story will be narrated by illustrator and actor Lily Franky, and the Saturday edition will be narrated by the station's announcer Takase Kozo. This will be the first morning drama to be set mainly in the Heisei era, since "Maiagare!" in the second half of 2022.

The series will air on NHK General TV from September 30th, Monday to Saturday at 8am and other times.
