It was revealed on September 6th that rock band B'z will be performing the theme song for the NHK morning drama "Omusubi," starring Kanna Hashimoto, which will begin airing on September 30th in the second half of 2024.

The theme song, "Illumination," is said to be a song that will powerfully liven up the world of the story, in which the protagonist encounters gal culture.

B'z members Takahiro Matsumoto and Koshi Inaba commented, "Laughing and crying, crossing mountains and valleys, living your life as you go, when you arrive at a place where illuminations shining with unconditional love await you. We created the theme song for "Omusubi" with this hope in mind. We hope you will enjoy it along with the bright and energetic drama."

Takashi Usagawa, the production manager, commented, "After seriously and fully considering the simple idea of 'I want to cheer people up,' we arrived at the answer of having the theme song by B'z. The two are hit makers who represent the Heisei era (and now), and more than anything, they have supported our days and lives up to now through their many famous songs. In fact, I was listening to B'z songs when I wrote the proposal for the TV drama series 'Omusubi.'" He continued, "A few months after I told the two members of B'z about the feelings I had for the drama, they delivered me a song with the beautiful title 'Illumination.' When I heard the song for the first time, I couldn't help but shed tears. The scriptwriter Nemoto (Nonji) also shed tears. It was because I felt that they were blessing our lives and our days in the best way possible. I hope that through the drama, along with the warm 'illumination' lit by the two members of B'z, we can bring a bright day to everyone's hearts." "Omusubi" is the 111th NHK morning drama series. The heroine, Yoneda Yui (played by Hashimoto), was born on the day the era name changed to "Heisei." After growing up as a gal in Fukuoka, a certain incident leads her to aim to become a registered dietitian in Kansai... this "Heisei youth graffiti" is the story. The series is an original work by screenwriter Nemoto Nonji, who is known for the NHK drama "Shojiki Real Estate," among others.
