It has been announced that the new TV anime "Mashhin Hero Wataru" will be broadcast on TV Tokyo from January 2025. It will be a "Wataru" series aimed at a "new generation," and the protagonist, Hoshibe Wataru, a fourth-grade elementary school student, will appear as a YouTuber aiming to become a superstar. Wataru and his partner Ryujinmaru will engage in a "buzzworthy" adventure battle in Chubukai, a different world where blocks float.
Tamura Mutsumi will play Wataru, Sugita Tomokazu will play Ryujinmaru, and Tanezaki Atsumi will play Amabe Kakeru, Konishi Katsuyuki will play Ofurain, Umezawa Megu will play Maro, and Kugimiya Rie will play Ryunryun.
Kamakura Yumi will direct the show, which will be produced by Bandai Namco Pictures. A promotional video featuring Wataru and Ryujinmaru has been released on YouTube. The manga version will be serialized in the January issue of the manga magazine "Monthly CoroCoro Comic" (Shogakukan), which goes on sale on December 13th.
"Mashhin Hero Wataru" tells the story of elementary school student Senbe Wataru who is taken to another world and fights to save it. The first TV series aired from 1988 to 1989. The second series, "Mashhin Hero Wataru 2", aired from 1990 to 1991, and the third series, "Super Mashin Hero Wataru", aired from 1997 to 1998. A new nine-episode web anime, "Mashhin Hero Wataru: Ryuujinmaru of the Seven Souls", began streaming in April 2020, and a special edition, "Mashhin Hero Wataru: Ryuujinmaru of the Seven Souls - Reunion", was released in theaters in 2022, which also attracted attention.
