Actor Yuki Sakurai attended the preview screening of the completed drama W Golden Kamuy: Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoners (WOWOW) held in Tokyo. She revealed a surprising episode that happened during filming.
Kano Ienaga, played by Sakurai, is the young female owner of the Sapporo World Hotel, which the protagonist Saichi Sugimoto (played by Kento Yamazaki) and his party visit when they come to Sapporo, and is a stunning beauty.
When I looked at the character Ienaga again, I noticed that he has a mole in a similar position to me, and although the position is slightly different, I was able to use this mole in the actual filming. I felt that it was fate."
Looking back on the filming, she said, "I won't say who, but it was the first time I licked an actress' eyeball. It was an unsuccessful attempt (actually). I was so close that I felt I had to say, 'I'm sorry.' Even when I saw the finished product, I was surprised at how close we were."
Also attending the preview were Yamazaki Kento, Yamada Anna, Yamoto Yuma, Yanagi Shuntaro, Shiono Akihisa, Nakagawa Taishi, Ikeuchi Hiroyuki, Tamaki Hiroshi, and Tachi Hiroshi.
"Golden Kamuy" is based on a popular manga (2014-2022) by Noda Satoru. Set in Hokkaido at the end of the Meiji era, it depicts a survival battle in the great outdoors with a group of quirky characters fighting over a huge amount of buried Ainu gold. A film starring Yamazaki Kento was released in January this year. The sequel drama version will feature the same main cast and will be exclusively broadcast and streamed on WOWOW from 10pm on October 6th (9 episodes in total).
