On September 17th, actress Yuriko Ishida took part in a talk session as a guest ahead of the exhibition "Pomellato, Helmut Newton & the 1980s," which opens on the 18th in Omotesando, Tokyo.
The exhibition was organized by Italian luxury jewelry brand Pomellato and had a 1980s theme. When asked about the music and movies that influenced her at the time, she said, "I was a teenager, so it was the heyday of movies like 'E.T.' and director (Steven) Spielberg. Movies like 'Flashdance' and 'Footloose', and I had an image of everyone dancing energetically and with gusto. I was surrounded by people who were much more powerful than me, and it was an amazing time."
When asked about what she was passionate about at the time, she recalled, "I was a swimmer, so I swam all the time. After that, I made my debut and tried desperately to fit into the entertainment world, so I read books and watched movies. I was a kid who couldn't do anything, so I was always nervous."
The exhibition will feature black-and-white works by photographer Helmut Newton as well as signature pieces from the brand, such as chains and colored gemstones, which were introduced in the 1980s.
On the same day, Ishida cut the ribbon for the exhibition together with Taiwanese actress Lin Chi-ling, who was visiting Japan, and French actress Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who plays Sylvie Grateau, the boss of the main character Emily in the hit Netflix original drama "Emily in Paris."
September 18th to October 6th at Omotesando Crossing Park (Minato-ku, Tokyo), near the Omotesando intersection in Tokyo. Admission is free. Reservations required.
