Actress Keiko Kitagawa attended the "CITIZEN xC KEIKO KITAGAWA Limited Model" PR presentation held in Tokyo on October 2nd. She spoke about her first fan letter, which she said made her "so happy it brought tears to her eyes."
When asked about the most memorable moment in her life, Kitagawa replied, "When I made my debut and when I first entered this industry, I stepped in with a mixture of anxiety and anticipation. Back then, we only received paper letters, but the feeling I had when I received my first fan letter was indescribable."
He continued, "Our job is to express ourselves, and if it doesn't reach anyone then it's over. But that was my first fan letter, when what we'd done reached someone and they replied, 'We're watching you' and 'We're rooting for you'. I was still in my teens, but I was so happy I could cry. It made me think, 'I'll work hard from now on so that I can receive more and more.'"
When asked about the senders of fan letters at that time, she said with a smile, "There were two people. When I was appearing in a magazine called 'Seventeen' (Shueisha), I was chosen as a model through a vote, and a girl a little younger than me said, 'I voted for you.' Then there was a male fan from when I was doing a special effects drama, who wrote a whole bunch of letters saying, 'I'm watching you.' He still comes to events for my photo books. I still treasure the first letters I received from people who I've spent so much time with."
