It has been revealed that actors Kentaro Sakaguchi and Ken Watanabe will star in the film "Sunflower on the Board" (directed by Naoto Kumazawa, to be released on October 31st), which will feature Kuranosuke Sasaki, Mahiro Takasugi, Takuma Otoo, Akira Emoto, Ikkei Watanabe, Ukon Onoue, Tae Kimura, and Fumiyo Kohinata. The film's trailer has also been released.
The film is based on the novel of the same name (Chuokoron-Shinsha) by Yuzutsuki Yuko, known for "The Blood of Wolves" and other works. A skeleton is discovered in the mountains. The clue is a set of shogi pieces, of which only seven remain in the world. The suspect is Kamijo Keisuke (Sakaguchi), a genius who suddenly appeared in the world of shogi, overwhelmed other players, and became a celebrity overnight. During the investigation, the existence of Higashimei Chongqing (Watanabe), a man who lived in the underworld of gambling shogi, emerges. Eventually, Keisuke's mysterious upbringing is revealed. It was an unimaginably harsh one... This is a human mystery. Tao Tsuchiya plays Natsuko, the protagonist's ex-fiancee. The theme song is "Kureyuku Machi no Futari" by Southern All Stars.
