The TV anime " A Witch's Life in Mongol ," based on the manga by Tomato Soup, which was also selected as the No. 1 female manga in " Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023" (Takarajimasha), will begin airing on TV Asahi's anime block "IMAnimation" on July 4th at 11 PM. The first episode will be a one-hour special featuring two episodes back-to-back.
" A Witch's Life in Mongol " is a manga set in 13th-century Mongolia, serialized on Akita Shoten's manga website "Souffle". The story follows Sitara, a former slave girl who becomes a prisoner of the Mongol Empire, as she meets Dregene, the sixth wife of the Mongol Emperor, who also harbors complex feelings towards the Mongol Empire. Together, they use their wits to shake up the empire.
The anime will be directed by Naoko Yamada , known for works such as " The Heike Story A Silent Voice," and "The Colors Within ," with Abel Gongora, director of " Dandadan" Season 2, and character design and animation chief by Kenichi Yoshida, known for works such as "Eureka Seven," "OVERMAN King Gainer," and "The Orbital Children." It will be produced by Science SARU, known for works such as "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!", "The Heike Story," and "Dandadan."
The first episode begins in 1213 in Tus, a city in eastern Iran, when Sitara, a young girl who has lost her mother and been separated from her homeland, is taken in by Fatima, the kind wife of a scholarly family. Initially, Sitara dislikes studying and tries to run away in order to return home, but Muhammad, Fatima's son who aspires to be a scholar, teaches her the importance of learning, saying, "If you become wise, you will know what to do best no matter how difficult the situation."
Sitara and her family live their days quietly, yet richly accumulating knowledge. However, their peaceful daily lives are suddenly shattered. The Mongol Empire, rapidly expanding its power, and the army led by its fourth prince, Tolui, finally approach the land where Sitara and her family live. Sitara, captured by the Mongol army and plunged into the depths of despair, is contacted by Shira, a young boy who works as an interpreter for the Mongol army.
