Actor Taiga Nakano appeared at a talk event for the NHK Taiga drama "BROTHERS IN ARMS (Toyotomi Brothers!) Takeda Castle," which aired on May 31st. Nakano reflected on that episode.
Nakano revealed, "Normally, when I go to battle, Hideyoshi, played by Sosuke Ikematsu, is right beside me, and I'm often spurred on by my older brother's energy and passion, and I figure out what to do from there. So when I was told that I was in charge of being the supreme commander, I felt a little uneasy."
The fact that Takeda Castle's lord, Otagaki Terunobu, was played by Nakano's father, Nakano Hideo, also became a topic of conversation. Nakano said, "It was my own father who was the commander-in-chief and defeated the enemy, so in that sense I didn't feel uneasy at all; rather, I felt reassured." He added, "I really focused on how Koichiro would surrender the castle, and how to portray the qualities of a commander-in-chief that only Koichiro could have."
Nakano said that he "reaffirmed how significant Hideyoshi's presence was," and added, "There are quite a few situations where Koichiro is always relying on his older brother, like, 'Koichiro, do something,' but I also think that Koichiro was relying on him in some way, and I really felt how significant Hideyoshi's presence was, and at the same time, as Koichiro, I felt a sense of responsibility to properly lead the story, so it was a story that required some resolve." However, he then mistakenly referred to "Takeda Castle" as "Takeshi Castle," and quickly corrected himself, saying, "It's not Takeshi Castle," which drew laughter from the audience.
"BROTHERS IN ARMS (Toyotomi Brothers!)" is the 65th Taiga drama. With Toyotomi Hidenaga (Koichiro) as the protagonist, it depicts the miraculous feat of unifying Japan together with his older brother Hideyoshi (Tokichiro) through their strong bond, a success story of dreams and hopes.
