It has been announced that Mayu Tsuruta will appear as Kichijo in the NHK Taiga drama "BROTHERS IN ARMS （Toyotomi Brothers!）" (NHK General, Sundays at 8 PM, etc.), starring actor Taiga Nakano. This will be Tsuruta's first appearance in a Taiga drama in 18 years, since "Atsuhime" in 2008.
Kichijo was the proprietress of a brothel in Kyoto. While Hideyoshi was serving as the magistrate of Kyoto, she became close friends with Koichiro and Fujikichiro.
Tsuruta said, "I always found ' BROTHERS IN ARMS （Toyotomi Brothers!）' endearing, like puppies playing together, and it was a heartwarming experience to watch. I previously co-starred with Nakano Taiga in a role as parent and child. He's a very natural actor, and he always had a positive influence on the atmosphere. I was happy to be working with him again after so long. It is said that the brothels of this era were not yet as well-established as they were in the Edo period. After consulting with the director and producer, we decided to make Kichijo a character with a slightly mysterious, spy-like element. I hope you will enjoy that aspect of the show."
"BROTHERS IN ARMS （Toyotomi Brothers!）" is the 65th Taiga drama. With Toyotomi Hidenaga (Koichiro) as the protagonist, it depicts the miraculous feat of unifying Japan together with his older brother Hideyoshi (Tokichiro) through their strong bond, a success story of dreams and hopes.
