To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Miles Davis, the American trumpeter known as the "King of Jazz" who passed away in 1991, the premium live concert "UNLIMITED MILES: MILES DAVIS at 100," held on April 23 at Blue Note Tokyo (Minato-ku, Tokyo), will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Live and WOWOW On Demand on July 25.
For this live performance, keyboardist John Beasley, who had toured with Miles Davis's band in 1989, formed a six-piece "all-star sextet" with Sean Jones (trumpet), Mark Turner (saxophone), Kurt Rosenwinkel (guitar), Ben Williams (bass), and Therion Gurry (drums).
From cool jazz, hard bop, and modal jazz to his electric period which boldly incorporated rock and funk, and finally his approach to hip-hop, Davis has always been at the forefront of exploring new horizons in jazz. In this live performance, he reconstructed important songs from each era of Davis's career with the unique sensibilities of Beasley and the other six musicians.
WOWOW will broadcast and stream footage of the live performance at Blue Note Tokyo, titled "Miles Davis 100th Birthday: Unlimited Miles," on WOWOW Live and WOWOW On Demand from 7:30 PM on July 25th.
