"Super Princess Kaguya!", the first feature-length original anime directed by Shingo Yamashita, who has worked on opening sequences for popular anime such as the first season of "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man," will end its theatrical run on June 18th, with the exception of some theaters. "Super Princess Kaguya!" began streaming as a "Netflix movie" on January 22nd, and due to its success, it began theatrical release on February 20th. Initially planned for a limited one-week run, its success led to an extension of the screening period. In approximately four months since its release, it has grossed over 2.5 billion yen and attracted over 1.2 million viewers, achieving an exceptionally long run for a film that was initially released on Netflix.
Director Yamashita commented, "When the film was scheduled for a limited one-week run, I never imagined it would become such a long-running success. This is all thanks to the cooperation of theater staff across the country and the support of our audience. There are only a few days left, but please continue to enjoy Kaguya and her friends' story, which can only be experienced in theaters!"
It was also announced that a stage greeting event titled "This is the last fan service! Graduation commemorative stage greeting," featuring Yuko Natsuyoshi, who plays Saori Hayami, Saori Hayami, who plays Tsukimi Yachiyo, and director Yamashita, will be held on June 19th at Cinecitta (Kawasaki Ward, Kawasaki City) and Cinema City (Tachikawa City, Tokyo).
"Super Princess Kaguya!" is a "musical anime" based on the classic "Tale of the Bamboo Cutter," in which 17-year-old high school girl Iroha Sakayori, who is juggling part-time jobs and schoolwork, encounters Kaguya, who appears from a gaming utility pole that glows in seven colors. The anime was produced by Studio Colorido, known for "Penguin Highway," and Studio Chromato, led by director Yamashita. A host of talented Vocaloid producers, including ryo from "supercell," kz from "livetune," 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot, provided the music.
