Kabuki actor Nakamura Shido will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which airs at 1 PM on May 26th.
His grandfather was the renowned Kabuki female impersonator, Nakamura Tokizo III, but his father quit being a Kabuki actor early on to become a company employee. As a result, although he has many relatives, he was not a "heir to the Kabuki world." Consequently, he went through a difficult period where he was only given minor roles in the crowd.
It was his uncle, Kinnosuke Yorozuya, who, like his father, left the Kabuki world and became a movie star, who gave him the opportunity to perform on stage. He received the advice, "Act with your heart, not your face," and he followed those words and continued to work diligently. As a result, he was praised by Kanzaburo Nakamura, who said, "You are acting with your heart," and was selected for a leading role, gradually receiving more and more parts. Now, his uncle's signature role, "Lone Wolf and Cub," is being adapted for the stage.
His sons, 8-year-old Haruki Nakamura and 5-year-old Natsuki Nakamura, also appear in the show. In February of this year, Natsuki suffered a fracture and had to withdraw from some of the April performances, with his older brother Haruki taking his place. Haruki was already playing two roles, so playing a total of three roles was naturally very difficult, but he did his best for his brother.
