"Detective! Night Scoop" (ABC TV, Fridays at 11:17 PM) is a popular variety show where "detectives" tackle bizarre requests and worries submitted by viewers. On May 22nd, Detective Hiroshi Tamura investigated "people who are active in the middle of the night." Talent Sekine Tsutomu served as Special Director for the second time in four months, with Matsui Kemuri as Assistant Director and Masuda Saori as Secretary appearing on the show.
The request came from a 23-year-old man in Osaka. "I'm a first-year office worker who started working in Osaka this April. Coming to Osaka from the countryside of Tottori Prefecture, I'm constantly surprised by things like the sheer number of people and cars, the bustling downtown areas, and the large number of foreigners. Despite all that, I don't have a single friend in Osaka yet. When I finish work late and walk home through the city streets in the middle of the night, I feel an overwhelming sense of loneliness and sadness."
The streets of Osaka late at night are very different from my hometown of Tottori. One of them is the number of people you see. All over the pitch-black city, you see salarymen, young women, groups of people... people who make you wonder, "What are they doing out at this hour?" At first it was a little scary, but lately for some reason I've started to feel relieved when I see other people. I'm not alone! That's how I feel. But it's still too mysterious. What exactly are those people wandering around in the middle of the night doing? What are they thinking, and where are they going? I'm afraid to approach them alone because I might get involved in some kind of incident. So I'm asking you to investigate.
A very similar case was investigated four years ago, but what will the results be this time?! The investigation begins at 1 AM. The detective encounters a 19-year-old woman from Kyushu working until 1 AM to pay her vocational school tuition, two young people playing Pokémon GO, and a man working on air conditioning installation in a building. Just after 4 AM, he spots a young man returning from the gym, only to be met with the question, "How can I become popular with women?" Then, 30 minutes later, he spots a woman walking quickly. Detective Tamura matches her with the man from the gym... And finally, a middle-aged man reveals that he has something he must do every other day at 5 AM!?
