The first chapter of " Mobile Police Patlabor Mobile Police Patlabor " series, premiered on May 15th and has gotten off to a good start, ranking 8th in the weekend box office rankings (according to Kogyo Tsushinsha) for May 15th-17th. The fact that this is the first new anime in approximately 10 years since the short film " Mobile Police Patlabor REBOOT," released in 2016, has also generated buzz.
"Mobile Police Patlabor" is a multimedia project created by the legendary creative group "HEADGEAR," consisting of Masami Yuki, Yutaka Izubuchi, Kazunori Ito, Akemi Takada, and Mamoru Oshii. It began in 1988 with six OVAs (Original Video Animations) called "Early Days," and has since expanded into manga by Yuki, television anime, theatrical anime films, novels, audio dramas, games, and more.
"Mobile Police Patlabor EZY" is set in Japan in the 2030s, a time when the working population is declining and automation through AI technology is advancing. Izubuchi, director of "HEADGEAR," is directing, with Ito handling the script and series composition. JCSTAFF is producing the animation. It will consist of three chapters and eight episodes in total, with the second chapter being released in theaters on August 14th and the third chapter in March 2027.
