NHK Special "Gold Medal Achieved Through Bonds: The Complete Story of Riku and Ryuichi Kihara," aka "Rikuryu," who won the gold medal in figure skating pairs at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, will air on May 2nd at 8:15 AM (NHK General). The program will include an exclusive interview conducted for the first time since their retirement announcement, revealing the background behind their decision to retire and what they aim to achieve in the future. The two will candidly share their current thoughts.
At the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, they achieved a stunning comeback to win the gold medal, and after their free skate performance, they embraced on the ice, tears streaming down their faces. Their mutual trust and support moved not only Japan but the entire world. Seven years ago, the two had a shocking encounter that they described as "being struck by lightning," and began their partnership. Since then, they have overcome various obstacles and deepened their bond.
In February, immediately after the Games, NHK produced an NHK Special documentary that closely followed the athlete's daily life in Canada, where she trained, and explored the story behind her dramatic comeback to win the gold medal, based on testimonies from the athlete herself and her coaches.
