Popular voice actor and singer Mamoru Miyano has been cast in the NHK Taiga drama " The Gyakuzoku no Bakushin, " which will air in 2027 and stars Tori Matsuzaka . This will be Miyano's first appearance in a Taiga drama. He will play Tomotaka Takigawa, a childhood Oguri Tadamasa of the protagonist, Tadamasa Oguri.
"The Gyakuzoku no Bakushin" centers on Oguri Oguri Kozukenosuke Tadamasa official said to be a rival of Katsu Kaishu. He was a genius of the Edo shogunate who became Japan's first envoy to the United States, experienced the civilization of a new era, and designed a new form of nation. However, he was branded a "traitor" by the Meiji government and buried in the shadows of history. This thrilling and heartwarming entertainment depicts the untold exploits of this shogunate official. The script is written by Naoko Adachi , known for her work on dramas such as "What Did You Eat Yesterday?" and the serial television drama " Okaeri Mone ."
Miyano plays Takigawa Tomonori, a hatamoto (a direct retainer of the shogun) and a childhood friend of Oguri's family, who lived right next door to their mansion. In his youth, he was a playful mood-maker, but he steadily rose through the ranks, serving as Foreign Affairs Commissioner, Kanagawa Magistrate, and Kyoto Town Magistrate, eventually becoming the Chief Inspector. In Kyoto, where the storm of the expulsion of foreigners was raging, he struggled to maintain order in the city. Takigawa, who placed absolute value on the Tokugawa shogunate, vehemently opposed returning power to the imperial court when Tokugawa Yoshinobu restored imperial rule, and he was a strong advocate of suppressing Satsuma in response to their provocative actions in Edo. During the Boshin War, he, like Oguri, advocated for total resistance against the new government forces.
Miyano commented, "This will be my first appearance in a Taiga drama. I am very honored to have been given this opportunity. I feel the enthusiasm of the staff through the vast amount of setting materials, meticulous meetings, and thorough preparations, and although I feel the pressure, I am currently filled with joy at being able to become a part of the team and motivation for this new challenge. The character I will play, Takigawa Tomonori, is a childhood friend of Oguri Tadamasa, and they have been exchanging opinions since they were young, sometimes clashing due to their differing personalities, and pursuing what it means to be a shogunate official. I would like to approach this role with sincerity and dedication so that I can be a presence that can inspire both Oguri and the story."
In addition to Miyano, new cast members have been announced to play "friends who have known Oguri since childhood."
Takashi Aoki plays Jōun Kurimoto, a big brother figure who is always one step ahead and a lifelong friend; Mitsuomi Takahashi plays Tomoatsu Komai, a sincere and reliable childhood friend who makes his second son the heir to the Oguri family; Daisuke Shiba of the comedy duo "Moguraider" plays Masahiro Asahina, a slightly cynical childhood friend who is adept at handling things; and Yoshiyoshi Arakawa plays Rizaemon Minomura, who rises from a servant in the Kuri family to the head clerk of Mitsui.
