It has been announced that all 52 episodes of "Macross 7," part of the popular anime series "Macross," will be made available for free for a limited time on the Macross channel on YouTube. To commemorate the request sale of the 4K remastered version, "Macross 7 Re.MASTER FIRE!! 4K ULTRA HD Blu-ray BOX," all 52 episodes, including 3 episodes that were never broadcast on television, will be made available. The first 3 episodes will premiere on April 29th at 9:30 PM, and three episodes will be premiered every Wednesday and Friday at 8:00 PM.
Director Tetsuro Amino, who worked on the anime, commented on the 4K remastered version: "My first impression was that it was beautiful and gorgeous. The aspect ratio is standard (4:3), but the image quality made me wonder if it was a recent work. Nowadays, 16:9 aspect ratio is the norm for animation. So I was shocked to see that they deliberately made it in 4:3 as a high-minded work!?... But putting that aside, the truth is that the freshness outweighed the memories that were revived. It's a valuable document that shows the changes that occur over time, rather than deterioration. In 10 years, it might even be in 3D."
"The color reproduction is amazing. In a word, it feels more mature (←What does that even mean!? I couldn't help but interject). It reproduces the original colors while also giving the impression of an evolution from cel animation to digital animation. The colors aren't emphasized, but rather blended together harmoniously. It has a natural feel. It's truly a refined adult thing (←Again, what does that even mean!? I interjected again). However, for children who don't know film, this might be just normal. In other words, the conclusion is that 'what's refined for adults is just normal for children!'" he said.
"Thank you for your long-standing support. I've recently started going to karaoke about once a month, and the other day I sang 'DYNAMITE EXPLOSION' for the first time. The opening part is familiar, but listening to the second verse and beyond after a long time made me feel nostalgic yet fresh, thinking, 'Ah, that's what the melody was like.' Even after more than 30 years, there are still fresh surprises to be found, so I encourage everyone to rewatch this work in 4K remaster and try to find those surprises for yourselves," he commented.
"Macross 7" is set on the space colonization fleet Macross 7 and depicts the struggles of Basara Nekki, the vocalist of the band "FIRE BOMBER," as he tries to convey his songs on the battlefield. The TV anime aired from 1994 to 1995.
