Netflix has reportedly begun production on the first live-action film in the popular anime series "Gundam." Filming began in Queensland, Australia in April.
Directed by Jim Mickle of "Sweet Tooth," and produced by Legendary Pictures in collaboration with Bandai Namco Filmworks, the film depicts the battles of rival pilots on opposing sides during a decades-long war between Earth and space colonies. Shifting loyalties and ever-increasing threats lead them to clash, plunging them into a life-or-death struggle for planets that could determine the fate of humanity.
The film stars Sydney Sweeney of "The Pretender" and "Euphoria," and Noah Centineo of "Black Adam" and "Street Fighter: The Movie," with Jackson White, Shiori Kutsuna, Nonso Anozie, Michael Mando, Javon "Wana" Walton, Oleksandr Rudinsky, Ida Brooke, Gemma Chua-Tran, and Jason Isaacs.
Director Jim Mickle is serving as producer through his production company Nightshade, alongside his partner Linda Moran, with Cale Boyter, Ari Mendes, Sidney Sweeney, Noah Centineo, and Enzo Marc also participating as producers. Executive producers include Matthew Jenkins, Makoto Asanuma (who has worked on the "Gundam" series), and Naohiro Ogata.
