The second episode of the TBS Sunday drama "GIFT," starring actor Shinichi Tsutsumi, aired on April 19th, and the average viewership ratings (according to Video Research, Kanto region) were 8.7% for households and 5.3% for individuals.
The drama is set in the world of wheelchair rugby, a parasport, and tells the story of Fumito Gotetsu (played by Tsutsumi), a genius astrophysicist, who finds answers to difficult problems facing a weak team, while learning the importance of friends and family. Yuki Yamada and Kasumi Arimura also appear in the drama.
Episode 2, titled "Genius scholar appointed as new coach!? Ace player fired!?", aired with an extended 15-minute runtime.
Gotetsu (Tsutsumi), tasked with the incredibly difficult task of making the Bulls the best team in Japan, becomes a sub-coach under Hino (Michiko Kichise). Reporter Hitoka (Kasumi Arimura) begins to take an interest in Gotetsu, who strategizes by likening the players to "stars" in the universe. Meanwhile, the Bulls' ace, Ryo (Yamada), receives a transfer offer from Sharkhead's Kunimi (Ken Yasuda). As Ryo wavers about whether to stay with the Bulls, Gotetsu tells him, "I'm going to have you quit"...and that's how the story unfolds.
